JOB OVERVIEW

ROBERT PECCIA & ASSOCIATES (RPA) has an exciting opportunity for an entry- to senior-level Transportation Engineer. This individual will work within the Transportation Planning and Operations Group and aid, or lead, the preparation of traffic engineering studies, active transportation designs, corridor plans, long-range transportation plans, and safety studies. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in transportation and a desire to learn. Key traits include technical proficiency, self-motivation, team-oriented, and ability to communicate and work well with others.

What to Expect in this Position

Depending on your experience, this position will involve either supporting or leading transportation engineering projects across the northwest. You will have the opportunity to work with a great team on exciting and complex transportation projects for MDT, FHWA, and local municipalities. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in our highly respected and successful Transportation Planning and Operations Group. 

In this role, your day-to-day work will involve a variety of projects, including planning, preliminary design, technical data analyses, and traffic engineering. Typical tasks will include identifying and evaluating transportation improvement alternatives, conducting traffic and safety analyses, developing preliminary design plans, and creating visualizations and 3D concept renderings using various software. You may also collaborate with the group to support marketing and business development strategies. 

Qualifications

We will consider applicants of all experience levels but are most focused on qualified individuals who exhibit strong technical knowledge with a willingness to learn. The following are desired qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in transportation, or equivalent. 
  • Experience using design programs such as Civil 3D. 
  • Knowledge of traffic simulation programs such as Synchro, SimTraffic, and Vissim. 
  • Technical ability and desire to learn new software and programs. 
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills. 
  • Superior attention to detail and technical proficiency. 
  • A positive attitude and commitment to be an active participant of our employee-owned culture and alignment with our Core Values. 

The following outlines additional position requirements: 

  • Engineering Technician: Engineering Intern certificate or ability to obtain within six (6) months; 0-4 years of relevant experience. 
  • Transportation Engineer: Professional Engineering license in Montana or ability to obtain within six (6) months; 4-8 years of experience in transportation engineering. 
  • Senior Transportation Engineer: Professional Engineering license in Montana or ability to obtain within six (6) months; PTOE or RSP certificate or ability to obtain within six (6) months; 8+ years of experience in traffic/transportation engineering.
