JOB OVERVIEW

Join ROBERT PECCIA & ASSOCIATES (RPA) as a Planner and be part of a dynamic team within our Transportation Planning and Operations Group. In this role, you will contribute to corridor planning studies, feasibility assessments, regulatory research, policy development, grant applications, active transportation planning, safety analyses, and land use and environmental investigations. We’re looking for a motivated individual with a strong foundation in planning, excellent technical writing skills, and the ability to engage effectively with colleagues, clients, government agencies, and the public.

What to expect in this Position

In this role, you’ll either support or lead diverse planning initiatives across the northwest, collaborating on impactful projects for the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and local municipalities. You will be an integral part of a respected team, helping to evaluate transportation, land use, and environmental conditions while analyzing the potential benefits and impacts of various options.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting research and data collection.
  • Participating in and facilitating public and client meetings.
  • Performing planning-level analyses.
  • Creating maps and graphics.
  • Developing technical reports and documents.
  • Supporting marketing and business development efforts to identify new opportunities (depending on experience).

Qualifications

We are seeking self-motivated individuals with strong planning knowledge and excellent communication skills. Ideal candidates will possess:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in planning, environmental science, engineering, landscape architecture, or related field.
  • Certification: American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), Professional Transportation Planner (PTP), or other planning certification desirable.  
  • Experience: 0-10 years of experience in transportation planning (preferred), environmental, urban design, or related professional field.
  • Skills: Expertise using programs such as Microsoft Word/Excel, ArcGIS, and Adobe Suite desirable.  
  • Attributes: Excellent written and spoken communication skills, collaborative, desire to learn.
  • Commitment: A positive attitude and commitment to be an active participant in our employee-owned culture and alignment with RPA’s core values.
