JOB OVERVIEW

ROBERT PECCIA & ASSOCIATES (RPA) has an exciting opportunity for an entry- to mid-level Planner. This individual will work within the Transportation Planning and Operations Group to assist in conducting corridor planning studies, feasibility studies, regulatory research and policy development, grant applications, active transportation planning, safety studies, land use and environmental investigations, and other transportation planning efforts. The successful candidate will have a strong interest and background in planning, excellent technical writing abilities, and outstanding communication and interpersonal skills in interactions with colleagues, clients, government agencies, and the public. Key traits include self-motivation, team orientation, technical proficiency, and ability to learn new skills.

What to expect in this Position

Depending on your experience, this position will involve either supporting or leading a variety of planning projects across the northwest. You will have the opportunity to work with a great team on exciting and complex projects for MDT, FHWA, and local municipalities. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in our highly respected and successful Transportation Planning and Operations Group. 

In this role, you will be part of a team evaluating existing transportation, land use, and environmental conditions considering the benefits and impacts of potential improvement options, policy decisions, and study recommendations. Tasks may include research, data collection, public and client meeting participation and facilitation, various planning-level analyses, mapping and graphics development, and technical writing. You may also work within the group to support marketing and business development strategies, including pursuit of new planning opportunities, markets, and clients. 

Qualifications

Individual qualities that the company looks for are self-motivation, intelligence, common sense, industriousness, and the ability to communicate and work well with others. We will consider applicants of all experience levels but are most focused on qualified individuals who exhibit strong technical knowledge in planning or related fields. The following are desired qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, environmental science, engineering, landscape architecture, or related field.
  • Zero (0) to ten (10) years of experience in planning or related professional field. 
  • Professional Transportation Planner (PTP), American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), or other planning certification desired for mid-level position.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in one or more planning disciplines, such as transportation planning, environmental planning, land use planning, urban design, or economic development. 
  • Expertise using programs such as Microsoft Word/Excel, ArcGIS, and Adobe Suite desirable.  
  • Ability to manage tight deadlines, make independent decisions, and work cooperatively with multi-discipline teams. 
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
