ROBERT PECCIA & ASSOCIATES (RPA) has an exciting opportunity for an entry- to senior-level Traffic Engineer. This individual will work within the Transportation Planning and Operations Group and aid, or lead, the preparation of traffic engineering studies, active transportation designs, corridor plans, long-range transportation plans, and safety studies. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in transportation and a desire to learn. Key traits include technical proficiency, self-motivation, team-oriented, and ability to communicate and work well with others.

Primary Responsibilities

Depending on experience, this position will serve to support or lead traffic and transportation engineering projects across the northwest. In this role, you will be a team member of our highly regarded and successful Transportation Planning and Operations Group where you will identify and evaluate improvement alternatives, perform traffic operations analyses, develop traffic simulation models, and create visualizations and 3D concept renderings. You may also work within the group to support marketing and business development strategies.

The following are desired qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in transportation, or equivalent.
  • Expertise with, or ability to learn, traffic simulation programs such as Synchro, SimTraffic, and Vissim.
  • Experience using design programs such as Civil 3D (desirable).
  • Technical ability and desire to learn new software and programs.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Superior attention to detail and technical proficiency.

The following outlines additional position requirements:

  • Traffic Engineering Technician: Engineering Intern certificate or ability to obtain within six (6) months; 0-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Traffic Engineer: Professional Engineering license in Montana or ability to obtain within six (6) months; 4-8 years of experience in traffic/transportation engineering.
  • Senior Traffic Engineer: Professional Engineering license in Montana or ability to obtain within six (6) months; certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (desirable); 8+ years of experience in traffic/transportation engineering.
